St. Albans – Juanita H. “Nita” Viens, a longtime area resident passed away early Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Franklin County Rehab Center. She was born in Newport, Vermont on February 17, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert V. and Claire (Coburn) Hill. Nita was 82 years old. On January 8, 1955, in St. Albans, she married Richard A. Viens, who preceded her in death on December 6, 1994. Nita was a 1951 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and a 1954 graduate of the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing where she received her Registered Nurse degree. She was one of the first Intensive Care Unit nurses in St. Albans; she had a longtime nursing career with the former Kerbs Memorial Hospital and retired in 1978 from the Northwestern Medical Center. She was a proud volunteer at the Northwestern Medical Center where she also belonged to the NMC auxiliary and a former member of the Board of Incorporators. She also was a longtime communicant of Holy Angels Parish. She was very proud of her profession and her family. Her greatest enjoyment was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her daughter, Julie Howard and her husband, Jeffrey, of St. Albans; her two sons, Timothy Viens and his wife, Kelly, of St. Albans and Richard Viens, Jr and his wife, Heather, of Middlebury; her grandchildren, Chelsea Charbonneau and her husband, Marc, Benjamin Howard and his wife, Melissa, Jenny Howard, Kate Howard, Amanda Liese and her husband, Nathan, Betsy Hickey and her husband, Patrick, Paige Viens, Brett Viens as well as two great-grandsons, William Liese and Jack Howard and also a great-grandchild to be born in February. Nita is also survived by her sister, Virginia Hall and her husband, Thomas, of St. Albans; her brother, Rodney Hill and his wife, Elizabeth, of Grand Isle; her sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Hill of St. Albans and Francois Balch of Colchester and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by her brother, David Hill on April 14, 2010. Nita’s family would like to thank the staff at Northwestern Medical Center and Franklin County Rehab Center for the care and support given to her and her family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, November 10, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 11th at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake Street, St. Albans. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
