Obituary for John Michael Tichonuk
St. Albans – John Michael Tichonuk, a resident of this area since 1969, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 13, 1932, in Centralia, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Orinak) Tichonuk. John proudly served his country for 44 years in the United Sates Air Force, United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge from the Vermont Army National Guard in 1992 with the Rank of Command Sergeant Major. John had a 23 year career with Vermont Gas Systems where he retired as a Manager. He was a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum and Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. John enjoyed scuba diving, traveling, history, was a pilot and a woodworker. He was an avid volunteer at the Lake Champlain Museum and enjoyed crewing on the schooner, Lois McClure. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marjorie (Jebo) Tichonuk of St. Albans; their son, Erick Tichonuk and his wife, Sarah, of Port Henry, NY; his sons, Michael Tichonuk of Atlanta, GA and Art Merrill of Arizona; his daughter, Laura Sperber of California; stepsons, Dana Jarrett and his wife, Barbara, of Milton and Don Jarrett and his wife, Lesleigh, of Swanton; step-daughter, Diane Snyder and her husband, Dave, of Maine; 8 grandchildren and his sister, Ann Ovens of Baltimore MD. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Rock, 1091 Fairfax Road, St. Albans with the Pastor Roland Ludlam officiating. Private interment with Military Honors will take place at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
