John Maynard Foster St. Albans - John M. Foster, 65, passed away Monday, September 4, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Health Care following a brief illness. He was born in St. Albans July 22, 1941, the son of the late Maynard P. and Eleanor (Peterson) Foster. On May 29, 1965, John married Mary Patricia Taylor in Burlington. John retired in 1996 from the U. S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine where he was a Biomedical Engineer for 29 years. He was a graduate of Bellows Free Academy, class of 1959 and the University of Rhode Island in 1963. He was a member of St. Albans Lodge #1566, B.P.O.E., Champlain Country Club, and on the Board of Directors of the St. Albans Cemetery Association. He also volunteered for “Casting for Recoveryâ€, a program that teaches cancer survivors to fly fish. John was an avid sportsman and loved to be outside hunting and fishing. His many hobbies included spending time with his five grandchildren on Lake Champlain, golfing, maple sugaring, gardening, cooking, wood carving, and having coffee at the local coffee shops. In addition to his wife of over 41 years, Mary, survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John and Kathleen Foster of West Chester, PA, and their daughters, Emily and Abigail, two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Keith Wadehul of Upton, MA, and their daughter, Sarah, and Christine and Dennis Harvey of Milton, VT and their sons, Michael and Andrew. He also leaves a sister and her husband, Nancy and Phil Ruhle of Los Gatos, CA. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9th, at 10:00 A.M. in the First Congregational Church, Church Street, St. Albans with Pastor Judy Kennedy officiating. There will be no calling hours. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the North Hero Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 132, North Hero, VT 05474, to be used for Ice Rescue Education and Equipment. The Heald Funeral Home is assisting John’s family with arrangements.
