Obituary for John "Jay" Garver Kerch, III
John (Jay) Garver Kerch III, aged 57, died peacefully on June 24, 2018 at his home In Swanton, VT while taking a nap with his dog Rocko. Jay is survived by his loving husband John Kilgore Perkins, father John Garver Kerch Jr., sister Jennifer Drew Kerch, nephew Drew Kerch Bronstrup; all of Swanton, VT, and niece Trudy Ann Leach-Shockley and his grand-niece Lily Grace Shockley of Canal Fulton, OH.

Jay was born on February 25,1961 to John and Barbie Kerch in Akron, OH. He graduated from Firestone High School and went on to college at Miami University in OH, majoring in marketing. He then moved to Southern California followed by Cincinnati and began his career in furniture sales. Then he moved to St. Petersburg, FL followed by Manhattan, NY where he met the love of his life, John. (where they endured the trauma of 9/11 together) He also leaves many other close friends who will miss the way a room lit up when he entered it.

After that stressful period, they made the off-beat decision to purchase a beautiful B&B in Montgomery, VT called the Phineas Swann. They enjoyed 8 years there with many visits from family and friends. Jay and John's door was always open, even once to a traveler lost in a blizzard. After they retired from the inn they relocated to the small town of Swanton, VT and bought a gorgeous 200-year-old stone house. They were joined by Jay's sister, father and nephew within a few years, under the same roof! A true family affair!

Jay and John loved traveling to many exotic locales, collecting many souvenirs along the way. He also loved his dogs of which he had many through the years. He was so excited to pick up his new Westie puppy Maple on June 3rd. He was happiest out digging in his garden, eating his sister's cooking, decorating for Christmas, having lavish dinner parties, and working on needlepoint pillows for friends.

There will be no formal funeral arrangements, per his request. A celebration of Jay's life will be at the home on Saturday June 30, 2018. An informal service will be conducted by Andre Mol at 2 PM in the garden. Memorial donations may be directed to the fund established to erect a headstone in our family plot in Glendale Cemetery in Akron, OH for Jay and his devoted mother, who predeceased him.

Donations may be sent via PayPal to or you may donate through the Facebook Donation Program on the “Jennifer Drew Kerch” Fundraiser page.

The Heald Funeral Home is making arrangements on behalf of the family and messages of condolence to Jay’s family are welcome at the face book page of “Jennifer Drew Kerch.”
