Obituary for Joan Buker Wilson

St. Albans - Joan Buker Wilson, 73, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2012. She was born in Colchester, Vermont to Walter Wood and Mildred (Keenan) Buker. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Tari Wilson; her grandchildren Bryce, Konnar and Kade Johnson; her sisters Madine Simpson, Gwenyth Shepard, and Jean Mears and her brother, Walter “Woody” Buker. Joan was a loving mother, devoted Nana, sister and friend to many. Joan was a 1956 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and received her Associates degree from Champlain College. She was a dedicated public servant, retiring from the State of Vermont in 2000 with 44 years of service. During her tenure with the Department of Transportation she enriched the lives of her colleagues as well as the citizens and leaves behind a legacy of community involvement. Joan was very active in the community, serving on numerous boards and committees including the Vermont State Labor Relations Board Appointee, Vermont Federal Credit Union, Business and Professional Women, Northwestern Medical Center Incorporators, First Congregational Church, Bellows Free Academy trustees, and Champlain Country Club. A visitation for friends and family will be held Friday, May 4, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A celebration of Joan's life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, St. Albans, followed by burial in the St Albans Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's name to the First Congregational Church, 27 Church Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
