James Buckley “JBâ€, “Jim†Pignona, Jr. St. Albans, VT/Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii - James Buckley “JBâ€, “Jim†Pignona, Jr. a resident of Koloa, Kauai and Georgia Shore, Vermont passed away after a long illness early Saturday January 26, 2008, at the Wilcox Memorial Hospital on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. Jim was born April 9, 1943, the son of the late James B. Pignona, Sr. and Marjorie (Bell) Pignona. He attended St. Albans Schools and graduated form Bellows Free Academy in 1960 and Duke University in 1964. From 1966 to 1972 Jim was a member of Vermont Air National Guard, 134 Fighter Squadron and flew F-102 Fighter Interceptors. After his service in the Guard, Jim was involved in several successful business ventures. In 1999, he retired and moved to the Island of Kauai, returning each summer to his camp at “The Pines†on Georgia Shore, where he enjoyed the company of old friends. He was a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion. For the last several years, Jim struggled with illness. He down played his hardships and faced his challenges, stoically with little complaint. Over the years, he maintained his interest in Ford Mustangs, owning several high performance models, which he highly prized. Jim loved dogs and was especially fond of his English Setters, “RIP†and “Brandyâ€. Survivors include his brother, Jeffrey B. Pignona of Fairfield, Vermont; his former wife and close friend, Christine Pignona of Essex Junction, Vermont; his niece, Heather Bessette and her husband, Brian and their sons, Ryan and Brendan; his nephew, Jeffrey R. Pignona and his wife, Aviva and their children, Jeffrey, Sawyer and Anna. Jim is also survived by his aunts, Eunice Gates and Carol Locke of Jeffersonville, Vermont; his uncle, Ernest Pignona and family of Otto, North Carolina and several cousins, including, Judy Teague and Gerald Gates both of Jeffersonville, Vermont; a godchild, McKenzie Goodwin of Milton, Vermont. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Judith Steger Kennedy, Pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating. Jim’s family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be this spring at the Pignona family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
