Obituary for Henry L. Mayo

Henry L. “Herky” Mayo St. Albans - Henry L. “Herky” Mayo, 79, passed away Monday; October 22, 2007 at the Fletcher-Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a brief illness. He was born in St. Albans, October 9, 1928, son of the late Louis J. and Maude (Peters) Mayo. Henry was married to Mary (Crawford) Mayo, who predeceased him on Dec. 30, 2004. He was an Army Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. For several years, “Herky” owned and operated Mayo’s Restaurant on Lake St. in St. Albans. He also was employed as a foreman in the construction business. He was a member of Franklin Lodge # 4 F&AM, Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion and Robert Glidden Post #758 VFW. He leaves three sons: William L. and his wife Susan B. Mayo of Franklin, Michael H. and his wife Anne Marie Mayo of St. Albans and L. John and his wife Paula J. Mayo of Swanton, a daughter, Karen T. Mayo and her husband, Eric Personoski of Leland, North Carolina, a sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Marcel Beaulieu of Swanton, two brothers-in-law, Jim Crawford and his wife Diane of St. Albans and Keith Crawford and his wife Denise of Swanton, ten grandchildren: Ashley Mayo, Robert Mayo, Carrie Tourville, Jessica Mayo, Melissa Mayo, Lindsay Mayo, Sarah Mayo, Laura Mayo, Josh Mayo and Charlene Mayo, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, including Richard Peters and Sally Constantine. In addition to his wife and parents, “Herky” is pre-deceased by a brother Charles and two sisters, Anna and Gladys. Henry’s children would like to thank his sister, Dorothy and her husband Marcel for their presence and support during Henry’s final hours. Thank you also to the Staff at Fletcher Allen Health Care and the many friends who showed concern and support. A Masonic Funeral Service will be held Thursday; Nov. 1, 2007 at 6:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans, conducted by the brethren of Franklin Lodge # 4 F& AM with visiting hours being held from 4-6 P.M. prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albans at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, VT 05478. Assisting the family is the Heald Funeral Home.
