St. Albans – Henry C. Girard, Jr., 83, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away suddenly early Tuesday morning, September 1, 2009, shortly after arrival at Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Fairfield, Vermont April 17, 1926, the son of the late Henry C. Girard, Sr., and Blanche (Gignac) Girard. Henry was a machinist at General Electric in Burlington for 15 years until his retirement in 1989. Prior to that he was employed by Wirthmore Grain Company in St. Albans. Henry spent a large part of his life on Lake Champlain, fishing from his boat with family and friends during the summer and on the ice in the winter. He also greatly enjoyed hunting deer and other outdoor activities. He was a member of St. Albans Lodge of Loyal Order of the Moose. Survivors include Henry’s companion of 22 years, Suzanne Leavitt of St. Albans, his children; Michael and Sherry Girard of Derby, Patricia and Maurice Pigeon of Swanton, Diane Beyor of St. Albans, Gary and Sally Girard of Sheldon, Janice Girard and her best friend, Bill Guyette of Fletcher, Gail and Todd Lamos of Essex, Scott and Joni Leavitt of Milford, Maine, and Deb Currier of Essex. He also leaves two brothers, Ernie Girard of Lyon Mountain, NY and Roger Girard of East Hampton, CT, a sister, Corrine Lamphere of St. Johnsbury, VT, and his grandchildren; Cory, Chris and Tim Girard, Carri Papp, Kelly Bruley Payne, Wendy Marchessault, Steven Belisle, Kaleb and Andrew Lamos, Scott Beyor, Taylor Girard and Amy Ross, as well as several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Girard, a sister, Theresa Girard King and a granddaughter, Hayley Girard and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. Father Maurice J. Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be later in St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Henry’s memory may be made to the Jimmy Hance Rescue Fund of the St. Albans Town Firefighters Association, c/o Jay Sweeny, 912 Hathaway Point Road, St. Albans, VT 05478.
