Obituary for Gerald Winfield Wright

Gerald Winfield Wright Swanton - Gerald Winfield Wright , 86, a resident of Swanton for the past two years, passed away on Friday January, 12, 2007, at the Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford with his family at his side. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1920, the son of the late Edwin and Kathleen (Shepardson) Wright. He was married to the former Lois Williamson who predeceased him on November 24, 2004. Gerald graduated from Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax and the Albany Business College. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army 1st Infantry from July 11, 1940 to June 23, 1945. He served in North Africa in 1942 and 1943 and from July - October in 1943 he served in Sicily, preparing for the invasion of France in November 1943. On June 06, 1944 he was one of the veterans who stormed Omaha Beach and survived the D-Day invasion. He later went on to serve in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for many years as a Special Agent with the United States Customs Service. A 32nd Degree Mason, Gerald was a member of the Franklin Lodge #4, F&AM and the Daytona Beach Shriners. He was an avid skier, golfer, biker and enjoyed watching and playing hockey. Survivors include his three daughters, Kathleen Piercy and her husband, Greg of Cortland, New York, Priscilla Dupelle and her husband, Dan of Swanton and Jane Wright of Ogdensburg, New York, two sisters, June Cotter and her husband, Jim of Vienna, Virginia and Shirley Johnson of Englewood, California, two grandchildren, Jesse and Tara and his companion, Helen Johnson. In addition to his parents and his wife, Lois, Gerald was preceded in death by two brothers, Edwin and Frank. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 16, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the Colchester Village Cemetery. Gerald’s family will receive friends on Monday January 15 from 3-7 PM at the funeral home. Franklin Lodge # 4, F&AM will hold their ritualistic service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:00P.M. Messages of condolence are welcome at
