Obituary for Gerald F. "Sonny" Dixon

St. Albans/Ft Myers – Gerald F. “Sonny” Dixon, 87, longtime resident of both communities passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at his home in Ft. Myers. Born in St. Albans on April 17, 1924, he was the son of the late Clarke E. and Bertha A. (Blake) Dixon, and was preceded in death by his brother, Randall Dixon in 1949 and sister, Margaret Ann in 2003. On November 26, 1948, he married Mary Jeannette Hermann, who preceded him in death on May 6, 2006. Gerald received his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in November of 1956 at the rank of First Lieutenant. He retired in 1984 from NYNEX as a Supervisor. He was Past President of Telephone Pioneers in Springfield, Massachusetts and Past President of American Society for Training and Development in Rutland, Vermont and Springfield, Massachusetts. He was also a former member of Rotary International in Boston, Massachusetts. Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Dixon of Lewes, DE and Suanne Beyda and her husband, Richard, of Washington, DC, his three granddaughters, Alexandra and Samantha Beyda and Danielle Aronson (Josh), and his great-granddaughter Lila Suanne Aronson. Gerald especially enjoyed sports, history and holiday gatherings; he was proud of his family and loved spending time with them. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. The Reverend David Veale, Rector at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment with Military honors will follow in the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery.
