Swanton – George R. Draper, 68, a lifelong resident of this area passed away early Friday, July 1, 2011, following a brief illness with his family at his side. George was born on March 1, 1943, in Fairfield, the son of the late Frederick A. and Viola (Mitchell) Draper. On July 5, 2003, in St. Albans, he married Phyllis (Bingley) Turner. George worked on the construction of Interstate 89; was a farmer for many years in Fairfield and more recently worked for Phil’s Plowing and Sanding Service. He was a member of St. Albans Lodge # 1090, Loyal Order of the Moose. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Swanton; a son, Roger Draper; step-daughters and their spouses, Sue and Steve Pickel , of Sautee, Georgia, Betsy Turner of Swanton and Jane and Sherri Bushee of Georgia; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Gary Draper and wife, Veronica, of Enosburg; Ronnie Draper and wife, Diane, of West Charleston; sister, Carol Graves, of Seal Beach, California; sisters-in-law, Margaret Draper of Fairfield and Charlene Draper of St. Albans and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Fred, Jr. and sister, Margaret Garrett. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 8, 2011, from 4 to 7 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So Main St., St. Albans. On Friday at 7 PM in the Heald Chapel, St. Albans Lodge 1090, L.O.O.M. will exemplify their ritualistic service. Interment will be private in the Mead Hill Cemetery in Holland, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, Inc. 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495.
