George “Dewey†Burnor Fairfield - George “Dewey†Burnor, 79, a life long area resident, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his loving family at his side. He was born at the family homestead in Fairfield, Vermont on November 20, 1927, the son of the late Henry A. and Anne (Adams) Burnor. On September 2, 1949, in the Sheldon Methodist Church he married the former, Joan Roper, who survives him. At the age of sixty-four, Dewey received his G.E.D. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. Dewey owned and operated a dairy farm in Fairfield for twenty-two years and for nineteen years, enjoyed driving school bus in Sheldon, Fairfield and Enosburg. He was a member and past master of the former Eagles Lodge # 67, F&AM in East Fairfield, a member of Lincoln Lodge # 78, F&AM in Enosburg, Green Mountain Post #1, American Legion, Robert E. Glidden Post# 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars, a former member of the Fairfield Town Select board, Board of Civil Authority, and held several other positions with the town. He was a member of the former East Fairfield Congregational Church. An avid golfer, Dewey was also a member of the Enosburg Country Club. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Joan of Fairfield, their three sons, David H. Burnor and his wife, Jean of Fairfield, Keith G. Burnor of Madrid, New York and Jeffrey A. Burnor and his wife, Debbie of Phoenix, Arizona, his grandchildren, Jennifer Fournier and her husband, Ty, Julie Thibeault and her husband, James, Kevin Burnor and his wife, Monica, Sarah Heckman and her husband, Sean, Nathan Burnor, Trudi Burnor, Charity Shoen and her husband, Thomas, Thomas Burnor and his wife, Jessica, Carrie Burnor, Crystal Burnor, Katlin Burnor, Jordan Burnor and Shelby Burnor, his thirteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dewey was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and James and three sisters, Marjorie Coombs, Shirley Brooks and Nellie Webb. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2007, at 1:00 P.M. in the Bakersfield Congregational Church with Pastor Sue Marie Baskette officiating. Interment will be next spring in the family lot in Bradley Cemetery in Fairfield. There will be no public visitation. Lincoln Lodge # 78, F&AM will hold their ritualistic service during the funeral on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Linda Wood Mason Breast Cancer Fund, c/o Peoples Trust Company, Attn: Judy Smith, 123 First Street, Swanton, Vermont 05488.
