Obituary for George A. Rand

Georgia – Mr. George A. Rand, a lifetime resident of the community, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH with his family at his side. He was born on June 25, 1933, in Burlington, the son of the late George S. and Kathleen (Best) Rand. George was 80 years old. George married Lorraine J. Muzzy on October 10, 1959, in Holy Angels Church in St. Albans and settled in Georgia, Vermont until moving to Bedford, NH this past summer. George graduated from Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years and then served 24 ½ years in the Reserve and Vermont Air National Guard. George also worked for the United States Post Office as a rural letter carrier for 30 years and at Union Carbide Corporation for 15 years. George kept himself busy in his retirement years driving a school bus serving the community of Georgia. He enjoyed watching these children grow from his view in the driver’s seat. George was very active with the Northwestern Riding & Driving Club where he served as President for 8 years, a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, Robert E. Glidden Post # 758, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Air Force Sergeants Association, and was a Lister for the Town of Georgia. He also was a member of the Georgia United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lorraine, formerly of Georgia; their daughter and her husband, Pamela and Brian Axtell of Londonderry, NH; their sons and their wives, Bruce and Terri Rand of Great Falls, MT, Scott and Suzanne Rand and James and Brenda Rand all of Litchfield, NH; his grandchildren, Ian and Wesley Axtell, Robert, Ryan, Brianna, Christopher, Rebecca and Joshua Rand and a great granddaughter, Lilli May Rand. George is also survived by his sisters; H. Sylvia and Robert Bales of Denver, CO and Linda Rocque of GA; his sister-in-law, Kathryn Brouillette of St. Albans and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lawton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, December 28, 2013, from 1:00 to 3:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at 2:00 PM in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 11 Church Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Hyung Kyu Yi , Pastor of Georgia United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will be held next spring at the Georgia Plain Cemetery.
