St. Albans – George A. Jamison, Sr., 83, a longtime area resident, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Northwestern Medical Center following a brief illness; his family was at his side. Born on May 27, 1926, in Sarasota, Florida, he was the son of the late George A. and Ellen (Bowen) Jamison. On February 13, 1954, in St. Albans, George married Carol Greenwood, who survives him. George was a 1945 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans. He then served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1952 with the rank of Corporal. George retired in 1987 from I.B.M. He was a former member of the St. Albans Citizens Band. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol of St. Albans; their 2 sons, George A Jamison, Jr. and his wife, Holly and their daughter, Carissa of Milton and Thomas A. Jamison and his wife, Nicole and their daughters, Megan and Leah of Georgia. George is also survived by his brother-in-law, Thomas Greenwood and his wife, Shirley of PLattsburgh, New York and nieces and nephews, Diane Day, Judith Mosher, David Greenwood, Pamela Broughan and Jeremy Greenwood. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his sisters, Kathleen Jamison in 1992 and Ellen Laselle in 2001. A private graveside funeral service will be held at the convenience of his family at the Greenwood Cemetery. The Reverend Elizabeth Griffin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials in George’s name may be made to the Citizens Concert Band, P.O. Box 44, Highgate Center, Vermont 05459.
