Obituary for Gary Vance "Shakey Jake" Locklin

Morrisville - Gary Vance Locklin “Shakey Jake”, age 67, died Wednesday, September 1st at the Manor in Morrisville after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan 13, 1943, in St. Albans, the son of Lawrence “Bud” and Louella (Cook) Locklin. Gary graduated from Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, CA in 1961 and Knox College in Galesburg, IL in 1965 where he was a member of Phi Delta fraternity. He worked as a mail carrier in Fairfax, CA from 1967-74 and co-owned the Adams Club Tavern with his parents in Malone, NY from 1975-77. In 1977 he joined Lane Press in Burlington, retiring in April, 2006 as a charter member of the Quarter Century Club. Gary had a great love of music and movies. A very private, independent person, Gary considered himself a “loner”, but anyone who spent time with him would soon find themselves enthralled by the stories he told of his life’s escapades. Time spent with his close friends, Corey “his adopted nephew” & Dana Mallon, Bob & Brenda Withey, Mark & Hedwig Bauer and Mike Hardy, through visits, phone calls or correspondence gave him immense pleasure – he spoke highly of his “support network”. Gary is survived by two cousins and their families: Gertrude Paquette of Leesburg, FL and Barbara Miller of Morrisville. . His family and friends would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at the Manor for their compassionate and dignified care of Gary during his 9 months of residence. Burial will take place at the family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery in St. Albans at the convenience of his family. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Manor Activity Fund, 577 Washington Hwy, Morrisville, VT 05661. Assisting the Locklin family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans.
