St. Albans -- Francis W. Lumbra, 89, a lifelong resident of St. Albans, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 24, 2021 in Burlington.
Francis was born on March 26, 1931 in Fairfield, the son of Hilton and Myrtle (Williams) Lumbra. He attended local schools and served in the US Army from 1951 to 1954. His marriage to Pearl Gratton took place on December 29, 1956 at Holy Angels Parish in St. Albans.
Francis was employed by Wright & Morrissey, Inc. from 1956 to 1996 as a superintendent and continued after his retirement to work with them on a part time basis on special jobs. He was known as a man who could do or build anything. He would always think about a project and then set about building it.
Regarded by his family as a prankster he enjoyed playing tricks on his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed gardening and prided himself on growing the largest tomatoes and potatoes. He also enjoyed his basement workshop and rides where he would scout out and dispatch woodchucks.
Francis was a member of American Legion Post # 1 and VFW Post # 758 in St. Albans.
