Obituary for Francis E. Johnson - Funeral Held

Francis E. Johnson St. Albans: A Mass of Christian Burial for Francis English Johnson, who passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 was celebrated Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 10:00 in St. Mary’s Church, Fairfield St., St. Albans with Father Brian O’Donnell, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Gabe Gagne, Deacon. Attending at the altar were Eucharistic Ministers, Rose Rixon and Denise Messier. Mr. Johnson sons, Thomas and David draped their father’s casket with the funeral pall and then his daughter-in-law, Holly (Clifford) Johnson, placed the crucifix on the casket for Francis’ wife, Marion who was escorted by a son, Patrick. Rose Rixon read from the Sacred Scripture and Deacon Gagne proclaimed the Holy Gospel and led the congregation in the Profession of Faith. Bridget Chatterley was the organist and soloist. The selection of special hymns included, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, “In the Garden”, “The Lord is My Shepherd – Twenty-third Psalm”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “And Let There be Peace on Earth”, “Ave Maria”, “Come My Love My Truth”, “Song Of Farewell”, “May The Angels Lead You Into Paradise” and “Mother Beloved”. As special tribute to the World War II Army Veteran, the Veteran Service Honor Guard from Green Mountain Post No. 1 American Legion and Robert E. Glidden Post No. 758 Veterans of Foreign Wars formed an Honor Guard as the casket and National Colors were processed to and from the sanctuary, escorted by American Flag Bearer, Edgar “Ed” Royer. Attending was a large delegation from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service and The Vermont Service Center. Also attending were Francis’s caregivers from Franklin County Home Health Agency and former co-workers from the U.S. Customs Service. The casket bearers included sons, Thomas Johnson and David Johnson, Neil Clifford and Nathan Clifford. Interment followed in the Johnson Family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery where committal prayers were offered by Father O’Donnell and the American Flag from Francis’ casket was presented to his wife, Marion, by fellow veteran and Past Commander of Green Mountain Post No. 1, American Legion, James Brouillette. Assisting the Johnson Family was the staff of the Heald Funeral Home.
