St. Albans – Frances Louise Plant, 98, of St. Albans passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Franklin County Rehab Center. She was born on March 17, 1913 at her home on Cedar Street. She was the daughter of Arthur Franklin and Beatrice Boaz Plant. She is survived by her nephews Geoffrey Plant and Marie Morris, Richard Plant, and Philip and Deborah Plant, great nephew Christopher Plant and great nieces Carleigh Plant, Stina Plant Booth, Kaela Plant, and several great- great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Beatrice Elaine Plant and Dorothy Elaine Plant, brother Herbert and wife, Elizabeth Plant, and nephew Steven Plant. Frances graduated from St. Albans High School. She worked for Pelkey’s drugstore and Prior’s drugstore most of her life retiring in 1978. She was an independent and personable lady who loved to walk all over St. Albans to do her shopping, visit with people, and enjoy the exercise. At 95 Frances was still walking from her home on North Main Street to Food City, Rite Aid, etc. to shop. In the winter she swept and shoveled her own apartment porch and sidewalk. There was always nuts and seeds for the squirrels and birds. She was an avid bowler for many years and a member of the Franklin County Senior Center where she loved to play 500. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and King’s Daughters. Even at 98 her memory of past events, people and family genealogy was amazing. Her optimistic and positive view of life inspired others. Her artistic interests waned in later years, but from a very young girl she loved to write poems, sketch and paint. She was extremely gifted in these areas. Her family would like to thank the Franklin County Rehab Center for their compassionate and supportive care of Frances and her family during her stay there. There will be no visiting hours. A private burial will take place in the Plant family lot in Greenwood Cemetery at the convenience of her family. Private messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
