Obituary for Eunice Slayton Marshall

St. Albans – Born on December 21, 1918, in Barre, Vermont to Laura Dix Slayton and Elwin Hersey Slayton, Eunice always lived life to its fullest. Eunice’s long life ended at the age of 91 on October 20, 2010. She was a 1936 graduate of Hardwick Academy and in 1940 graduated from the University of Vermont. Eunice loved her profession, having taught home economics for over 40 years. In the early 40’s she taught in Marshfield, Plainfield, Cabot and Hardwick. Later she taught for many years at Spaulding High School in Barre. At Burlington High School, Eunice was chair of her department from 1968-72, and finished her teaching career at Astronaut High School in Titusville, Florida. For the past 17 years she has lived in St. Albans with her daughter, Mary E. Marshall, who will miss her both as a mother and best friend. In addition to her daughter, Mary, Eunice is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Laura Hoon Marshall and her husband, Matthew Malila of Exeter, NH; great grandchildren, Ethan Slayton Malila and Audrey Dix Malila; her nieces, Joyce Slayton Mitchell of Hardwick, New York and Beijing and Joanna Nichols Ryan of Middlesex; nephews, John R. Slayton of FT Lauderdale, FL and William E. Mitchell of Elmore. She was predeceased by her brother, George D. Slayton, sister, Muriel Slayton Nichols and nephew, Jay L. Slayton. The family wants to thank all the caregivers from Franklin County Home Health, Dr. Michael Corrigan, the caring folks from Redstone Villa, where she spent her final days. A memorial service will be held in the summer at Hope Cemetery in Barre.
