Obituary for Erma "Peggy" Macy

St. Albans, VT Erma Josephine “Peggy” (Hard) Macy, 81, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 following a brief illness. Born in Bennington, Aug. 19, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Martha (Siegman) Hard. She attended Burr and Burton Seminary and was a graduate of the University of Vermont where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega. She also attended Colorado A&M College in Fort Collins. Mrs. Macy was employed for many years by the Vermont Extension Service in Montpelier. She married John H. Macy in April 1959 in Manchester. Together they owned and operated Northland Motors in St. Albans until 1993. “Peggy” was a member of St. Albans Bay United Methodist Church and served on the board of the St. Albans Bay Cemetery Association until recently. Survivors include a niece, Delia Bort of Rutland, a nephew, Mark Bort and his wife Cathy of Gulfport, MS, two grandnieces, Kathryn Edwards and Joanna Hall, cousins, Stephen Hard and his wife Daphne and Crosby Hard, as well as special long time friends, Kevin and Darla Lothian and their children, Ryan and Rachel. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John in 1993, a sister, Mary Bort in 2006 and a nephew, Steven Bort in 2001. To honor her request interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Dellwood Cemetery in Manchester, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Albans Bay United Methodist Church in care of Donna McWilliams, P.O.
