Obituary for Dorothy Virginia Howard
St. Albans – Dorothy Virginia Howard, 87, a resident of this area since 1947, passed away on Tuesday evening May 26, 2009, at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehab Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Bronx, New York on March 27, 1922, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Alfred L. and Dorothy A. (Loose) Laidman. On July 6, 1946, in Williston Park, Long Island she married William V. Howard, Jr. who preceded her in death on October 17, 1988. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist and with the love for music and joy of singing; she was a member of the church choir. She was a former member of Welden Chapter #79, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors include her two sons, William S. Howard of St. Albans; Jeffrey Howard and his wife, Julie of St. Albans; her two daughters, Virginia Roadcap and her husband, Kenneth of Middleburg, Pennsylvania and Ruth Miller and her companion, Jay Sweeny of St. Albans Bay; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by her brothers, Robert Laidman and his wife, Elizabeth of Scottsdale, Arizona and Alfred Laidman, Jr. and his wife, Gini of Stuart, Florida; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Cox of Massapequa, New York and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009, at 2:00 PM in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Herman Benjamin, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Howard family lot in the St. Albans Bay Cemetery. Dorothy’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12 Noon until the time of the service.
