Sheldon – Dorothy R. Corwell, 79, a resident of this area for forty-one years, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her loving family at her side. Born in North Cambridge, Vermont on August 23, 1929, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James and Florence (LaPlant) Taylor. Dorothy was married to Fay J. “Peanut†Corwell, who preceded her in death on January 4, 1992. Dorothy was employed for several years at the former Verdelle Village Extended Care Facility. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose, St. Albans Chapter# 321. Her favorite pastime was watching soap operas, especially the “Guiding Lightâ€, going to the Alburgh Auction House and Colchester Bingo. She also was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed ice fishing. Survivors include her children, Fay A. Corwell of Sheldon; Marilyn Brow of Sheldon; Judy Messier and her husband, Gerald, of Bridgewater, Virginia; Beatrice Witham and her husband, Robert, of Highgate, Jane Ferland and her husband, John, of Highgate Center, and Bonnie LaFrance and her husband, John, of Highgate Falls; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by her brothers, Max James Taylor of Montgomery Village; Wendell Taylor and Walter Taylor both of Pownal, Vermont; her sisters, Gyneth Bevins and her husband, Lloyd of St. Albans; Pearl Martin of Highgate Springs; Irene Carlson and her husband, Ronald, of South Carolina; Waneta Baker of Bennington; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Rick Lansing. In addition to her parents and husband, Peanut, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Dora Tatro and Marion Raymond and son-in-law, Francis Brow. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with the Reverend Herman Benjamin, Pastor of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Corwell family lot in the Rice Hill Cemetery. Dorothy’s family will receive friends on Thursday from 7-9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home.
