Obituary for Doris T. Yeatts

St. Albans - In the hometown that she loved, Doris T. Yeatts, 88, passed away early February 11, 2015, at her daughter’s home. Born July 25, 1926, in St. Albans, Vermont to Victor and Agnes Thibault, Doris grew up in a loving and caring family. She was instilled with strong senses of faith and family at a young age, values that led her well through her entire life. Doris enjoyed spending time with others and easily made acquaintances that became lifelong friends. She went to St. Mary’s Primary and High School, graduating in the class of 1944. Staying close to her roots, she attended and graduated from Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Her career took her to Vergennes, where she worked for the Vermont Farm and Home Administration. The special friendships that she formed during her time there always remained a major part of her life. Family needs called her back to St. Albans, and she began working in the offices at Union Carbide. It was during this time that she met her eternal love, Leonard Yeatts, while he was stationed at the Air Force base in St. Albans. They were married in 1957 and spent forty-seven close and happy years together. They chose to leave the service to raise a family and relocated to the Bayberry community near Syracuse, New York. While there, she was employed at Liverpool High School until her retirement, but her first love was motherhood. She was actively involved in all facets of her children’s lives and became known as the neighborhood mom. Doris was especially fond of any time spent with her family and cherished friends, whether it be games with her bridge group, her communities on Juniper and Pico Lane, being an active member of Christ the King Church, traveling with her husband and kids, or having breakfast at the diner. Her loved ones, which also includes her many pets, were her priority in life. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Leonard, and she leaves behind three children and their families: Mary Ann and Keith Peterson of St. Albans, Vermont, and their daughter Ashleigh; David and Katy Yeatts of Harrington, Maine, David’s son Shaun, his wife Katie, and their children Mitiku and Mia, and David’s son Mark and his daughters Olivia and Sofia; and Jeffrey and Julia Yeatts of Baldwinsville, New York and their children Meaghan, Timothy, and Brian. Doris also leaves behind her supportive and caring older brother Philip Thibault of Swanton, Vermont, his family, Ann and Chris Leach, and their children, Kerri Leach and Jamie Slater and their son Silas; Steve and Betsey Leach and their children Connor and Ava. She is also survived by her North Carolina family of Leonard’s brothers and sisters, and her many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Angels Church in St. Albans at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 21st. In lieu of calling hours, there will be a reception for friends and family at Twiggs, 24 North Main Street at 12:00 on the same day. If desired, donations can be made in memory of Doris to her friends at the Sisters of Saint Joseph Development Office, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, New York 12110. We thank everyone for their love, thoughts and prayers. Messages of condolence to Doris’ family are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
