Obituary for Doris S. Foss

St. Albans – Doris S. Foss, 102, a longtime St. Albans resident passed away early Sunday, March 8, 2009, at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Sawyerville, Quebec on March 17, 1906, Doris was the daughter of the William Barry and Mary Alvira (Williams) Stevenson. On June 2, 1956, in St. Albans, Doris married Arthur A. Foss, who preceded her in death on December 23, 1974. Doris graduated from the former St. Albans High School, class of 1925. She began her working career on June 10, 1934, at the Peoples Trust Company, retiring in 1971, as supervisor in the bookkeeping department. Doris was a longtime and very dedicated employee. She was a member of the Kings Daughters and Bellevue Rebekah Lodge # 26. For many years, Doris was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and more recently Northside Baptist Church. Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Haskins of Fairfield, Maine; her niece Sandra Wright and her husband, Chuck, of Groton, Massachusetts and her nephew, Richard Haskins and his wife, Barbara, of Oakland, Maine. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans with Bruce Patterson, Pastor of the Northside Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be later this spring in the Foss family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Northside Baptist Church, Deacons Fund, P.O. Box 1044, St. Albans, Vermont 05478. Assisting the Foss family is Raymond “Rett” Heald of the Heald Funeral Home and Cremation Service in St. Albans.
