Obituary for Doris M. Tarte

St. Albans – Doris M. Tarte, 91, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 13, 2009, at the Northwestern Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born at St. Albans Bay on June 15, 1918, the daughter of the late Leger and Albina (Lamothe) Rocheleau. Doris was married on June 26, 1937, to Lucien A. Tarte, who preceded her in death March 6, 1974. Doris attended Holy Angels Grammar and Commercial School. For many years she was a baker for Ann’s Bake Shop in St. Albans and will be remembered for catering many weddings at the St. Jean de Baptiste Hall on Lake Street. She was a member of the St Jean de Baptiste Society and former troop leader for the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Doris enjoyed knitting, playing cards and baking. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, preparing Sunday evening dinners and baking lemon meringue pies. She baked over 100 pies and cakes each year for her family and friends. Survivors include her son, Paul “Lefty” Tarte and his wife, Helen, of Essex Junction; her three daughters, Pat Flanagan and her husband, Mike, of St. Albans; Barbara Parent and her husband, Pierre, of Sheldon and Sandi Bushey and her husband, Tom of St. Albans; her grandchildren, Sheri Sheehan and husband, Jack; Kelli Schreiner and husband, Rick; Lisa Manahan and husband, Marty; Katie Sullivan and husband, Pete; Megan Gratton and husband, Ray; Peter Tarte; Steve Parent and wife, Beth; John Parent; Michael Parent and wife, Sandy; Sara Timmerman and husband, Todd; Jenna Bushey and Jeremy Bushey. Doris is also survived by her great grandchildren, Eliza, Myriah, Michael, Danielle, Sean, Samantha, Isaac, Ian, Ashley, Kailee, Mikayla, Cole, Dawson, Parker, Jodie, Sebastian, Devin, Sophia, Addy and Lucien; her sister, Stella Castine of Jericho and her good friends, Elaine Begnoche and Sally Lemnah. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Lucien, Doris was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jodi Lee Flanagan and her brothers, Ovila and Maurice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church on Fairfield Street with the Reverend W. André Houle as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Tarte family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Doris’ family will receive friends on Friday from 4 to 7 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.
