Obituary for Donald L. Metivier

Swanton – Donald L. Metivier, 55, a longtime resident of this area, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, March 20, 2009, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. Don was born in Burlington, Vermont on November 1, 1953, the son of the late Andrew and Madeline (Auclair) Metivier. Don graduated from Champlain Valley Union High School. At the time of his death he was custodian at the Georgia Elementary School. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and hunting. He was a “Jack of all Trades” and was known for his ability to solve any project for anyone. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and was known as the family jokester. Survivors include his companion of eighteen years, Shelly Wright of Swanton; step-son, Jay Wright and his wife, Sandra Stoddard of Craftsbury; his five brothers, Maurice “Moe” and his wife, Nancy; Michael and his wife, Kathy; David and his wife, Sandy; Roger and his wife, Brenda; Edward and his wife, Veronica; his five sisters, Betty Lanphere; Theresa Dashno; Shirley Ward and her husband, Dave; Sally Desautels and her husband, Richard and Elaine Cross. Don is also survived by his special grandchildren, Iva and Jessie Wright; his in-laws, Joyce and Roland Greene and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and John and his sister, Barbara Atherton. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March, 25, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. in the Heald Funeral Chapel, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. Mr. Roland Greene will officiate. Interment will be later this spring in the Metivier/Wright family lot in the Belvidere Center Cemetery. Don’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 9 PM.
