Obituary for Donald James "Don" Kenyon

St. Albans – Donald “Don” James Kenyon, 75, a lifelong resident of St. Albans passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the Northwestern Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in St. Albans, on April 12, 1933, Don was the son of Audrey (Wisher) and the late William Kenyon. He married the former Anne Cecelia Crepeau and together they raised a family of nine- -five girls and four boys. Don was a railroad man from a railroad family living in a railroad city all his life, finally retiring in 1995 after forty-two years. He held almost every position available from Brakeman, to Conductor, to Yard Master. He was a man of many talents. He could do almost anything he put his mind to. Carpentry, plumbing, wiring and general mechanics were just a few of the skills in his resume. He was an avid gardener, and always took pride in his tomatoes, green beans and squash. A skilled woodworker, he enjoyed making things in his shop. His Adirondack chairs were always in great demand. Donald also enjoyed his computers; he built his own network and spent hours surfing the internet and listening to his favorite tunes. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, where for many years he served as an usher and served on the Board of Directors for the Holy Cross Cemetery Association. Predeceased by his son, Christopher Kenyon, and his father, William Kenyon, Don is survived by his wife, Anne Kenyon and his mother, Audrey Kenyon, both of St. Albans. Other survivors include his daughter, Celia and husband, Paul Asbell of Burlington; son, Michael and wife, Janet Kenyon of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Steven and wife, Cindy Kenyon of Westminster, South Carolina; daughter, Karen and husband, Peter Boudreau of Newnan, Georgia; son, William and wife, Laurie Kenyon of South Burlington; daughter, Kathy and husband, William Brooks of Lewiston, Maine; daughter, Mary and husband, Joe Hewitt of Swanton; and daughter Julie and husband Richard Hamilton of Essex Junction. He is also survived by his three sisters, Madeline Chamberlain of Winooski; Dorothy and husband, George Guise of New Jersey and Sally and husband, Larry Wells of St. Albans. Donald also leaves behind twenty-one grandchildren and five great grandchildren who will miss his humor and child-like spirit. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anita Morin of Swanton; Madeline McLaren and companion, Scotty of Oregon; Richard Crepeau and wife, Nancy of New Hampshire; Yvette Severance and husband, Raymond of Sheldon; Mary Jackson and husband, Jim of Sheldon Springs; Daniel Crepeau and wife, Sharon of Cambridge, John Crepeau and wife, Carmen of St. Albans and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, William and his son, Christopher, Don was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marie Reine and Hormidas Crepeau. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church on Fairfield Street. The Reverend W. André Houle will be the celebrant. Interment will be held in the spring at the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Don’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 7 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.
