Obituary for Denise (Jacques) Smith
Tucson, AZ/St. Albans, VT - Denise M. (Jacques) Smith, 52, a former resident of St. Albans, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 4, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson. Denise was born in St. Albans, on July 18, 1956, the daughter of Francis “Jake” and Jane (Fairbanks) Jacques. She was married to Jarvis Smith, who preceded her in death in August of 2001. Denise was a 1974 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and enjoyed traveling and gardening. Prior to moving to Arizona, Denise worked in the travel and vacation planning business for high-end hotels. She lived in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Naples, Florida, Kauai, Hawaii and Bisbee, Arizona. Survivors include her parents, Francis and Jane Jacques of St. Albans and Zephyrhills, Florida, her companion in Arizona, Ron Nicholson and his family; her brother, Douglas Jacques and his companion, Lynn Dupuis of St. Albans; her four sisters, Deborah Martell and her husband, Greg of Jeffersonville, Vermont; Diane Walsh and her husband, Joseph of New Fairfield, Connecticut; Donna Corrigan and her husband, David of St. Albans and Darlene Durett and her husband, James of Colchester, Vermont. Denise is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and mother -in-law, Sylvia Smith. In addition to her husband, Jarvis, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Homer and Margaret Fairbanks, Albert Jacques and Bernadette Norcross. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 15, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Lake Street. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring. Denise’s family will receive friends on Sunday, December 14, 2008, from 4 to 6 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. In honor of her cat “Kiki”, the family request that memorials be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
