Obituary for Deborah Janone Martin
On June 18th, 2021, Deborah Janone Martin of Highgate, passed away suddenly in Burlington due to complications of years of physical health issues. Her husband, John was by her side. She was 72.

Deborah was born in Brattleboro, VT to James Jean Janone and Naomi Rachael Hicks on March 21st, 1949.

She lived in many places. Her mother was a divorced Army wife, who worked in Switzerland and England. Sadly, Deborah and her older sister, Judith never got to know their father.

Deborah’s family moved back to the US and she attended high school in Southern, VT. She achieved her Masters Degree in Communications at UVM.

Her love for writing and music led her to work as a journalist, copy writer, DJ and sales rep. (WTSA, WPTZ, WDOT, WEZF, KPFA California). She was the first to sell Ben & Jerry’s their first advertising, interviewed Bernie and some rock stars. She wrote a romance novel and a mystery which were never published. While at UVM, she worked to get acts like Sly Stone, (whom she went to dinner with the whole band). She loved music, saw the Beatles, Stones on their 64 tour, spent 3 days at Woodstock, watched Hendrix up close on the last day. As a young girl in England, she met Queen Elizabeth.

Eventually she landed in Highgate, after she married John on the shores of Lake Champlain. We found an old farmhouse with in need of love to call home. She gardened, planted trees and flowers attracted birds and wild life, hammered nails, hung sheetrock “Hey Deb, look what I broke today.” She loved all animals, donkeys, elephants, cats and dogs.

Eventually her physical health made it too hard for her to full fill her dreams, she was so strong and brave, she just wanted to be able to walk and live life. She is walking on the Rainbow Trail and flying with the angels now.

Deb enjoyed her 1964 Mustang, “beat it to the ground, left no prisoners and rock on”, says her sister, Judith.

I think she did just fine.

Deborah is survived by her loving husband, John; her sister, Judith Janone; the Martin clan and our cat, Oliver.
She was predeceased by her parents, cousin, Robert, a very special friend, Eris Howe and many rescue pets.

Thank you to the Home Health, Heald Funeral Home, Dr. Malgeri, UVM Medical Center, friends and neighbors.
Thank you for donating to your favorite charity.

“I love you Deborah and rest in heaven now with God”, John
