Sheldon – Dawn Adele Piaseczny passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Our Lady of the Meadows, with her loving family at her side. Born on June 6, 1951, in Burlington, Vermont, Dawn was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Doreen (Phelps) Nowotynski. She is survived by her husband, Rick of Sheldon; their two children, Margaret and Bryan of Sheldon; as well as Colleen and Kale, her children with her first husband, Kevin Cronin. Their families include Colleen & her husband, Christopher, and their two children, Colin & Caileigh of Manchester, NH and Kale and his wife, Christina, with their two children, Kelsey and Natalie of Swanton, VT. Dawn is also survived by her sister, Jane Berry her husband, John, and their two children, Jauna & Justin of Fairfield, VT. Dawn was a 1969 graduate of Champlain Valley Union High School, a 1971 graduate of Sacred Heart with a degree in Nursing and a 2002 graduate of Johnson State College with a degree in Education. At the time of her passing, she was working towards her Master’s in Education. Dawn began her nursing career in New Hampshire with Pediatrician Dr. Dugan from 1974 to 1987. Dawn was also a level 1 Firefighter and EMT I with the Auburn, New Hampshire Fire Department; this is where she met Rick and they married on June 10, 1989. She then continued on with the Dartmouth Medical Center until they moved to Vermont. In Vermont she first worked for the Vermont Department of Health. Upon receiving her teaching degree, she taught at the Northwest Technical Center in the Medical Professions Department. She was also employed as a nurse in the I.C.U. at the Northwestern Medical Center as well as working at the Franklin County Rehab Center until her illness forced her to retire. Dawn was also very involved in her family’s activities, from a 4H leader, a school and community volunteer, watching and supporting her children’s sporting activities to volunteering with the Sheldon Volunteer Fire Department. With the addition of four grandchildren she was looking forward to many more sporting events and activities that she could share with them. Her presence, support and activism will be missed by her family, friends and former students, whose lives she continuously guided and supported. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, December 15, 2011, from 4 to 7 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will then be held at 7:00 PM in the Heald Chapel, with the Reverend David Veale officiating. Interment will be private in the family lot in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.
