St. Albans – David Philip Bachand a lifelong resident of this area passed away Thursday evening, August 13, 2015, at the U.V.M. Medical Center with his family at his side. Born on July 26, 1939, in St. Albans, he was the son of the late Harold & Florence (Guay) Bachand. David was 76 years old. David attended Holy Angels Grade School & was a 1957 graduate of Bellows Free Academy. He later received a technical certificate as a machinist in 1958. David was employed at Paulus Tool & Die Company for 19 years, four of which, serving as tool & die maker apprentice, later becoming a Master Tool & Die Maker. Later, he was employed at IBM for 23 years as a tool & model maker and planner, retiring in 2002. David served in the Vermont Army National Guard for 6 years which included 7 months of active duty. David was a member of Holy Angels Parish & served on the Board of Directors at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Other memberships include Green Mountain Post 1 American Legion and St. Albans Benevolent Order of Elks Lodge 1566, where he was very active in giving back to the community. He leaves four children, Robert Bachand & wife, Lori, of Fairfax, Mark Bachand of St. Albans, Jeremy Bachand & wife, Laurie, of Georgia & Heather Nielsen & husband, Chad, of Georgia, 8 grandchildren, Justin, Christian, Emily, Megan, Grace & Gillian Bachand, and Ellana & Cooper Nielsen, 2 great grandchildren, Elias Shepard & Ayden Bachand. David is also survived by his dear friend, Danielle LeBel of St. Albans; his siblings, Ronald Bachand & his wife, Renee, of Lake Wales, FL, Janet Chadwick & husband, Raymond, of Jericho, Constance Mahaney & husband, Robert, of St. Albans & Christine Pignona of St. Albans, his sister-in-law, Virginia Bachand of Swanton, and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gerald. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday 8/19 from 6-8 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 8/20 at 11 AM in Holy Angels Church, 245 Lake Street with Father Maurice J. Roy, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. It was David’s wish, that memorials be made in his name to the Silver Towers Camp for Exceptional People, c/o St. Albans Lodge 1566, B.P.O.E., St. Albans, VT 05478.
