Swanton – David A. Martell a longtime resident of Hinesburg passed away Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care with his family at his side. He was born at home in Swanton on November 19, 1930, one of 13 children to the late Dollard and Yvonne (Hope) Martell. David was 82 years old. On June 4, 1949, David married Alice Smith, who preceded him in death on October 14, 2009. David was U.S. Army and Navy veteran during the Korean War. He was employed for many years at the Hinesburg Cheese Plant. David was a member of Green Mountain Post # 1, American Legion, a former President of the St. Albans Aerie # 1205, Fraternal Order of Eagles and St. Albans Lodge # 1090, L.O.O.M., was known as the “Mayor†at the Falcon Manor Adult Day Program in Williston, and attended Care Partners in St. Albans and enjoyed his many fishing outings with his family. Survivors include his children; David Adelard Martell and his wife, Lynn, of St. Albans, Dollard Alfred Martell of Vidor, Texas, Etta Marie Hughes and her husband, Leroy, of Fairfield, Daniel Adam Martell of Swanton, Shawn Arnold Martell of Colchester, Betty “Boop†Button and her fiancé , Slim Botala, of Hinesburg, Dwayne Anthony Martell and his wife, Jean, of St. Albans, Darren Andrew Martell and his wife, Shirley, of Colchester and Dwight Abram Martell and his wife, Mary, of St. Albans and his sister, Sister Yvonne Martell, DHS, of Putnam, Connecticut. David is also survived by his many grandchildren, great –grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends, Amy Bouchard and Earl McManis. In addition to his parents and wife, David was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and special friend, Inez Morse. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday January 17, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 18th at 2:00 P.M. in Holy Angels Church on Lake Street, St. Albans. The Reverend Maurice J. Roy will be the celebrant. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Falcon Manor Adult Day Program, c/o VNA, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vermont 05446.
