Obituary for Cory Robert Green
Fort Worth, Texas/Fairfax – Cory Robert Green, beloved son of Robert L. and Marianne (Graham) Green, and brother of Ryan Green (Polly and her children), of Stowe, Vermont and Bjorn Berntsen of Alta, Norway, fought many battles in Afghanistan, but unexpectedly lost his war at home with PTSD and related medical issues on August 5, 2021. Cory also leaves the love of his life Erin Bury and her family along with his adored, faithful friend and loving service dog, Trot.

Cory had fought the system for the last three years to try and get help. He had successfully completed six months of inpatient treatment at the PTSD Foundation’s Camp Hope, the Wheelhouse and Laurel Ridge in Texas and was proud to be clean, sober and healthy. Despite Cory’s battles, he was always a dreamer – even in his final hours. He had a plan in place for his future with Erin and Trot and hoped to do outreach for others afflicted with PTSD. At the time of his death, he was the happiest and healthiest he had been in years and was so excited about his future.

Cory was born on April 23, 1990. He graduated from BFA St. Albans in 2008 and immediately joined the United States Navy as a Corpsman, earning the rank of HM3 (FMF). He first served in Japan and then went “green side” serving with the 2/4 Marines (Magnificent Bastards) in Musa’Qalah, Afghanistan and the 1/5 Marines on their 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Cory earned a Navy Achievement Medal with Valor for his service. After seven years of military service, he attended Northeastern University and then relocated to Fort Worth, Texas and attended Texas Christian University.

Cory loved Red Sox baseball, Disney movies, music, fishing, bowling, apple picking, adventures while traveling, and cooking – always humming as he prepared a recipe from his collection of cookbooks; yet, he still loved his mom’s tuna macaroni salad and maple dream bars.

In addition to his parents, brothers and Erin, Cory is survived by his paternal grandparents, Robert L. and Ann Green of Cranston, Rhode Island; his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Graham of Fort Edward, New York; his aunts, uncles and cousins: Judi Graham and Kathie Marks of Norwich, New York; Jeffrey and Alison Graham (Megan and Kyle) of Hartford, New York; Pamela and Henry Newton (Trevor and Kelsey Green and Henry) of Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania; Richard and Wendy Sullivan (Jessica and Sean) of Cranston, Rhode Island and many other very special aunts, uncles and cousins. He also leaves many brothers whom he served with along with many, many friends who will miss him. Cory was pre-deceased by his maternal grandfather, Willard Graham of Hartford, New York, his great-grandmothers, and great aunts and uncles. Unfortunately, Cory was also predeceased by many “brothers” and friends who have all suffered as he did from PTSD and its related issues.

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on August 19, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 487 Furnace Road, Randolph Center, Vermont followed by a celebration of his life at 3:30 p.m. at his parents’ home.

Cory’s family asks that memorials in his name be made to the Josh Pallotta Fund at Josh’s House, 162 Hegeman Drive, Colchester, Vermont 05446.

Honored to be serving Cory’s family is the Heald Funeral Home, where messages of condolence are welcome at
