Obituary for Clarence Marcel Desorcie

St. Albans – Clarence Marcel Desorcie, 87, passed away Wednesday evening January 4, 2012, at his home. Born on September 6, 1924, in East Highgate, Marcel was the son of the late, Clarence and Elodie (Boucher) Desorcie. On June 21, 1954, in St. Louis Catholic Church in Highgate, Marcel married Beverly Machia, who survives him. During his early years he was associated with his father and brother, Paul, in the operation of Desorcie’s Market in East Highgate. At this time he also served as Post Master for East Highgate. In March of 1943, he entered the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on December 13, 1945. Marcel was also a recipient of the Purple Heart during his service to his country. Following his discharge, he received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Vermont in Language, where he was also a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He then received his Master’s Degree in Education and Guidance from Plattsburgh State University. In 1962, he started his teaching career at the Ausable Valley Central School, teaching Spanish and French and then served as a guidance counselor. He retired in 1987. Marcel has been a 42 year member of the American Legion, recently with the Green Mountain Post # 1, in St. Albans and prior to that with Ausable Forks Post # 504 and was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council # 2301 in Ausable Forks and a 3rd Degree Knight with St. Albans Council # 297. He enjoyed his gardens, playing the violin, family camping vacations, and captaining the “Snoopy 2”. Marcel also enjoyed woodworking, his family was recipient of many of his projects, and he enjoyed taking adult courses which included painting and plumbing. In 2000, Marcel and Beverly moved back to Vermont. Marcel always tolerated his family’s pets, but over the last few years he learned to love, “Meisha”, He was especially proud of his children’s accomplishments and his greatest enjoyment was being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Beverly of St. Albans; their children, Marcel Desorcie of Boston, MA, Mark Desorcie and his wife, Diana, of Troy, NH, Michael Desorcie and his wife, Sylvia, of Hayward, CA, Marlene Lyons and her husband, Richard, of Albany, NY, Marshia Desorcie of Keeseville, NY and Melinda Malone and her husband, Michael, of Fairfield and his grandchildren, Amanda, Dominique, Sara, Rebecca, Rachel, Benjamin and Jacob. Marcel is also survived by his sister, Denise St. John of Chicago, IL and his brother, Gerard Paul Desorcie and his companion, Lucille, of Highgate Center. In addition to his parents, Marcel was preceded in death by his brother Claude and his sisters, Theresa and Hortense and her husband, Gilles Boudreau. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, January 8, 2012, from 4 to 7 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday January 9th at 11:00 AM in St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Fairfield Street, St. Albans. Interment with Military Honors will be at 3:00 PM at the family lot in St. Louis Cemetery in Highgate.
