Clare L. Mildrum Burlington, VT - Clare L. Mildrum, daughter of Leslie and Mildred (Noll) Moran was born on April 28, 1927, in Hartford, CT and after years of declining health passed away October 17, 2007, at the Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington, VT. Clare along with her younger twin sisters, Eileen and Elinor, spent her childhood years in Windsor, CT. The family moved when their father, who worked for the U.S. Postal Service, was transferred to Newburgh, NY in 1939 and shortly after to Hempstead, Long Island where Clare graduated from high school in 1944 and later attended Hofstra College. After the war, Clare married and moved to Wantagh, Long Island where she raised her son Bob and worked for the Wantagh Public School system for forty years as a business manager in the administration office. She also worked part time in the office of local physician, Dr. Frazzitta. During this time she received much love and support from many wonderful friends, neighbors and family who shared in both the difficult and joyous times. Upon her retirement in 1994, Clare was very active in the Wantagh Schools United Retirees Association and she took the opportunity to travel and socialize with friends. As her health began to fail, Clare moved to Vermont in 1998 to be closer to her son and her three grandchildren, Patrick, Scott and Charlie of whom she was so very proud. To her friends Clare will be remembered as a cheerful, generous person who held dear her many friendships. To her family she was a devoted Mother who was short on criticism and long on love and compassion. Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Ethan Allen Residence and Starr Farm Nursing Center who for so long have provided such warm and abundant companionship, love and care. Clare is survived by her son and his wife, Robert and Nancy Mildrum of Georgia, VT; their three sons, Patrick, Scott and Charlie; her sisters, Elinor Jansen of Meriden, CT and Eileen Fitch of Dallas, TX; and her nieces, Joanne Myers, Karen Vassar, Amy Norwood, Leslie Radant, Susan Christy and Stacey Fitch. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at 1:00 P.M. in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Enfield, CT where she will be laid to rest along side her parents. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, contributions in her name be forwarded to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Vermont, 100 Dorset Street, South Burlington, Vermont 05403. Assisting Clare's family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans, Vermont. Messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
