Obituary for Christina D. "Tina" Baker

St. Albans – Christina "Tina" D. Baker, 60, a resident of this area since 1979, passed away unexpectedly early Friday, June 3, 2011, shortly after arrival at the Northwestern Medical Center. Born on July 7, 1950, in Bennington, Christina was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Maisie (Betit) Dockum. On October 11, 1975, Christina married William R. Baker, who survives her. Christina graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Bennington. She worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Pathology Dept. for the Southwestern Medical Center in Bennington. After moving to St. Albans, Christina provided childcare for several families and later became a paraeducator for the Northwest Supervisory Union. At the time of her death, Christina was a substitute pre-school teacher in Swanton and Highgate. She loved working with and being around children. Christina loved crafts, especially quilting, basket weaving, and making Christmas decorations. She also loved to decorate; taking tremendous pride in her beautiful Christmas tree every year. Christina was also very proud of the family camp in the Adirondacks. She loved spending time there playing cards, enjoying campfires and reading. Regardless of where she was, you were always welcome to join her while she watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune at 7 o’clock. Her greatest joy was her family. Two sisters and a brother were her closest friends and her immediate family was her world. Over the past three years Christina and William have travelled frequently and enjoyed retirement. They loved being together, and each other. The pride she showed for her two sons, Jeremy and Christopher, could only be surpassed by her love of her grandchildren Tommy, Laurel, Maisie and Anna. Affectionately known as “Grandma Tina”, she loved to read, color, cuddle and laugh with her grandchildren. She was a selfless, caring and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed, but never forgotten by her family and friends. Survivors include her husband of thirty-five years, William of St. Albans; her two sons, Jeremy Baker and his wife, Stacy, and their two children, Laurel and Tommy all of Rutland and Christopher Baker and his wife, Sandra, and their two daughters, Maisie and Anna all of Essex; her siblings, Patricia Warner of Bennington, Jeanne Benedict of Sandusky, Ohio and Thomas Dockum of Bennington; several nieces and nephews and many close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday June 6, 2011, from 7 to 9 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 7th at 2:00 P.M. in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street. The Reverend Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Friends who wish to honor Christina’s memory may contribute to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, Vermont 05495.
