Swanton - Charlene Williams Underwood, 87, of Swanton passed away Friday December 23, 2011. She was born in St. Albans on June 17, 1924, daughter of the late Edgar and Rose (Charboneau) Williams. On August 13, 1944, she married Gordus Underwood. Together they operated the home farm on the Bushey Road until Gordus’ death in 1974. Charlene then worked for 10 years as a nurse’s aide at Holiday House. She was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, teaching Sunday school at one time. She also was a member of the Robert E. Glidden Post #758, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed visiting with family, watching the birds and the traffic changes on the Bushey Road. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Fecteau and husband, Norman, of Richford, son-in-law, James Guilmette of Richford, son, Gary Underwood and daughter, Patricia Guilmette both of Swanton and her 10 grandchildren, Rebecca Fecteau & Clarence Marrier, Keith & Cheryl Underwood, Emily Fecteau & Ed Messier, James & Shanon Guilmette, Karie Fecteau, Carrie & Jeremy Hatch, Jeremy & Ann Guilmette, Ronald & Katie Underwood, Andrew & Lesley Underwood and Norma & Joe Raymond. Charlene also leaves her 25 great-grandchildren with 2 more due in 2012, her sister-in-law, Doris Underwood and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Gordus, she was predeceased by her daughter, Cheryl Lee and her brother, George Williams and his wife, Mona. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday December 28, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A funeral service will be held on Thursday December 29th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on the corner of Fairfield and Church Streets in St. Albans. Interment will be next spring in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charlene’s name may be sent to the American Heart Association, Vermont Affiliate, 434 Hurricane Lane, Williston, VT 05495 or to a charity of one’s choice.
