St. Albans – Carl T. Elwood, Jr. a lifelong area resident, passed away late Sunday, November 16, 2014, at the Franklin County Rehab Center. Born in St. Albans, on April 21, 1933, he was the son of the late Carl T. and Flora May (Trombley) Elwood. Carl was 81 years old. Carl was a 1953 graduate of Bellows Free Academy and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his Honorable Discharge in 1956. Following 30 years of employment as an electrician, he retired from Rock Tenn in Sheldon Springs. He was a Past Commander of Sheldon Post # 88, American Legion and a communicant of Holy Angels Parish. Carl also was an accomplished Saxophone and Clarinet player and was a member of the Bands that played in Taylor Park and Lincoln Park in Enosburg under the direction of Sterling Weed. As an avid motorcycle rider, he never missed the annual Toy Run. Survivors include his wife, Harriet (Pilbin) Jarvis-Elwood; sons, Dean Elwood and Dan Jarvis; daughters, Lynn Elwood and Carolina Goodbred; his grandchildren, Deana, Ann, Morgan, Amber, Nicholas, Sean, Caitlin, Evan and Amanda as well as a great-granddaughter, Shelby. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 20th at 10:00 AM at Holy Angels Catholic Church 245 Lake Street with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy as celebrant. Prayers of Committal and Military Honors will follow at the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
