Swanton/Fairfax – Bruce Ira Bevins passed away unexpectedly Friday, February 14, 2014, at his home in Swanton. Born on February 17, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of Irene (Bushey) Bevins and the late Ira Bevins. Bruce was 60 years old. On June 10, 1972, in Holy Angels Catholic Church he married the former Gail Benoit, who survives him. Bruce attended Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax and in his earlier years worked at Madonna Mountain at Smugglers Notch. He then worked in construction for several years followed by farming with his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Armand & Jeannine Benoit. More recently he was a custodian at Missisquoi Valley Union High School, retiring in 2013. He enjoyed skiing, the students at MVU, spending time cruising in his 1969 Nova and playing poker. He was especially proud of his 3 sons and spending time with his family and friends. Bruce is survived by his mother, Irene Bevins of Milton; his wife of 41 years, Gail, of Swanton; their 3 sons, Tom Bevins and his wife, Nicki, and their daughter, Taylor, of Jericho, Scott Bevins and his wife, Annellie, and their daughter, Annellie, “A2” of Bolton and Richard Bevins of St. Albans. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters; David Bevins and his wife, Marlene, of St. Albans, Ronnie Bevins of Milton, Larry Bevins of St. Albans, Judy Cheney and her husband, Bill, of Swanton, Polly Marshia and her husband, Dennis, of Fairfield and Beverly Gingras and her husband, Meddie, of Burlington as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Ira, in 1972 and his younger sister, Jill. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Bruce’s family on Thursday, February 20, 2014, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A time of sharing will held between 7:00 & 7:30. Interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
