Obituary for Bruce Dale Benjamin

Swanton – Bruce Dale Benjamin, a lifelong area resident passed away, Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Northwestern Medical Center with his family at his side. Born in Franklin on December 6, 1934, he was the son of the late Newell and Charlene (Scott) Benjamin. Bruce was 79 years old. On May 18, 1957, in Richford, Bruce married Bea Fletcher, who preceded him in death on November 15, 2001. Bruce graduated from the Franklin High School and then then began a thirty-two and half year career with H. P. Hood, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and a sixty year member of Lincoln Lodge #78, F&AM. He enjoyed traveling, camping and bowling. Survivors include his son, Dean Benjamin and his wife, Teresa, of Westford; his daughter, Sharon Baker and her husband, David, of St. Albans and three grandsons, Matt Baker and his wife, Jen, and Patrick and Seth Baker, as well as two great-grandchildren, Addison and Ryder. Bruce is also survived by his sister, Mary Bates of St. Albans and two brothers, Michael Benjamin and his wife, Deana, of Franklin and N. James Benjamin of Essex and a close family member, Stuart Benjamin. In addition to his parents and wife, Bruce was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel B. Baker; sister, Sandra Andersen and sister-in-law, Nancy Benjamin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans. A Masonic Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM in the Heald Chapel conducted by the Lincoln Lodge # 78 and Franklin Lodge # 4. The Reverend Megan Stowe will then officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Georgia Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
