Obituary for Billie Moffatt

Berlin - Willetta Ann Domey Moffatt, 84, of Weston Street, Berlin, Vt., died October 15, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., following a short illness. Billie was born February 17, 1926, in Saint Albans, Vermont, the daughter of Captain Robert Hamilton Domey and Emma (Willett) Domey. She attended St. Albans schools, graduating from Bellows Free Academy in 1944. As a young woman she worked at the “Grain Company”. On January 6, 1951, Billie and George Monroe Moffatt were married in St. Albans. Her daughter, Susan Jane was born in 1952, and son, Thomas Robert in 1955. In 1957 the family moved to Montpelier, VT, where George began a career with the Vermont Highway Department (later the Agency of Transportation). Billie continued her secretarial work, first at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montpelier and then at Vermont Mutual Insurance Company, retiring after many years of dedicated service. Billie loved tennis with a singular passion, both as a player and in later years, as a spectator and fan. The Boston Red Sox were a favorite team and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a favorite winter haunt. Billie was also a skilled craftswoman - if a knitted hat and pair of mittens were in order, Billie would have them for you in a few days. Billie is survived by her daughter, Suzen Moffatt of Woodbury, Vt., and son Thomas Moffatt of Berlin, Vt., a granddaughter Brittany Moffatt of West Orange, N.J., and grandson Benjamin Moffatt of Craftsbury Common, VT. She leaves behind her dear sister Jane Domey Brigham, of St. Albans and a special lifelong friend Marilyn Wemitt of Montpelier. Also, there are many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will always remember Billie as a caring, selfless, generous woman with a beautiful spirit and overflowing heart. Her strength and tenacity are to be forever admired. Billie was predeceased by her parents Robert and Emma, her husband George, a brother Philip Domey, infant brother Robert, and her sisters, Martha Collins, Priscilla Pelton and Marian Chaffee. A memorial service will be held Saturday November 6th, 2010, at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main St., St. Albans, Vt. at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Bay Cemetery, Lake Road, St. Albans Town. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Berlin Vt. 05602 or Montpelier Home Delivery Program, c/o Trinity United Methodist Church, 137 Main St., Montpelier, Vt. 05602.
