Obituary for Beverly K. McGinn

St. Albans/Fort Myers, FL – Beverly K. McGinn, a longtime St. Albans resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 18th in St. Albans, Vt. following a brief illness with her loving family at her side. She was born in Orange, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Clifton A. and Agnes (Burnap) Kelley. On February 17, 1945, Bev married J. Raymond McGinn, her husband of 55 years, who preceded her in death on November 17, 2000. On June 30, 2006 Bev married Robert Shust of Fort Myers, Florida, who survives her. Bev was a 1938 graduate of Bellows Free Academy in St. Albans and a graduate of Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. In addition to raising her family, she worked for many years at the office of Dr. Walter Johnson, Franklin County Mental Health, and the Adult Education Program of St. Albans. Bev was very active in the community and spearheaded many charitable endeavors throughout the years. She and her late husband Raymond leave an impressive legacy of community involvement. She was actively involved in the Hospital Auxiliary and was the co-chair and a driving force behind the first “Cardiac Capers”, a tradition which continues in the community today. She was past President of the Autonoe Club and was active in the St. Albans Garden Club and Habitat for Humanity in the greater Fort Myers area. She enjoyed a competitive game of tennis, golf and bridge. Early on it was clear that she enjoyed a challenge as evidenced by the fact that she attained her pilot’s license as a young adult. No one loved a party more than Bev; she was renowned for her entertaining. The parties that she hosted for her many friends were truly special events. She loved her winters at “The Landings” in Fort Myers and her summers at “The Pines” on the Georgia Shore of Lake Champlain. She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception – St. Mary’s Parish. In addition to her husband, Robert Shust, Beverly leaves three children, Patricia McGinn Martin of Charlotte, North Carolina, Kevin Kelley McGinn and his wife, Joanne (Smith), of St. Albans and Mark Raymond McGinn and his wife, Martha (Reichert), of St. Albans. She will be greatly missed by her eight grandchildren, Adam Martin, Jonathan Martin and his wife, Lela, Lucas Martin and his wife, Susan, Katherine McGinn, Maureen McGinn, Anne McGinn, Peter McGinn and Thomas McGinn. Bev is also survived by a great- granddaughter, Lily Anna Martin as well as nieces and nephews and many friends in Vermont and Florida. In addition to her parents, Clifton and Agnes and her husband, Raymond, Bev was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas T. Kelley on June 12, 1983 and her son-in-law, Allen Lowe Martin on December 22, 2006. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Fairfield Street with the Reverend Leonidas B. Laroche, former Pastor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the McGinn family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.
