St. Albans – Beth Ann Zawisza, 47, died peacefully on January 27, 2012, at her home amid the love and warmth of her family after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. Born March 10, 1964, in Perry, New York, she was the youngest daughter of Donald and Salley (Feraldi) Hughes. Beth was a graduate of Perry Central High School Class of 1982 and the State University of New York Geneseo, where she earned her degree in Education. Upon her graduation, she began her career as a beloved educator cherished by her students and greatly admired and respected by her colleagues. Beth was an amazing woman renowned for her warmth, kindness, generosity and uncanny ability to light up every room she entered. Her talents were many including being an accomplished pianist, flutist and a gifted interior redesign, staging and organizational consultant whose talent not only changed homes, but lives. Beth’s talents were only outshined by her positive outlook and love for life, her incredible sense of self and her keen fashion style. Beth considered her life to be blessed in countless ways. She strengthened her unwavering faith in God as an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church family, where she found great joy singing in the choir with her sons, as well as serving on the Nurture and Care Committee and being involved in numerous church missions. She spent the last eight years as the most highly sought-after substitute teacher at St. Albans City School where her passion for working with children was felt every day by her students. That same enthusiasm was embodied in her support of the Bellows Free Academy school spirit as a member of the BFA Boosters and Parents for Band. She cherished living in St. Albans and raising her family in a community full of close friends with the same values and character that she held so dear. Beth’s biggest blessing happened on June 20th, 1987, when she married the love of her life, Norm Zawisza at her parents’ home in Perry. Together they have raised four incredibly strong sons, who have always been the light of their lives. Beth enjoyed nothing more than being a devoted wife and mother to her “boysâ€. In addition to her parents and loving husband, Norm, Beth is survived by her four sons, Zach, Ethan, Jed and her best Christmas present ever, Beau. She was a loving sister to Steve and his wife, Barbara Hughes of Omaha, NE, Patrick and his wife, Karen Hughes of Milwaukee, WI and Robin and her husband, Michael Fitch of Warsaw, NY and sister-in-law, Dawnne Hughes of Leroy, NY. She was also greatly loved by Norm’s parents, Norman and Karen Zawisza of Perry, NY and sister-in-law, Connie Wray of Rochester, NY. She was cherished by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and close friends. Her presence in all the lives of those who loved her will be greatly missed. Beth was predeceased by her big brother, Michael D. Hughes in February 2011. Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Church Street, St. Albans. Beth’s family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Those wishing to honor Beth’s memory are asked to contribute to the St. Albans City School Band, 29 Bellows Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
