Obituary for Bernice I. Walter

Barre/St. Albans – Bernice I. Walter a former resident of St. Albans and more recently of Barre, passed away early Saturday January 24, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Carol Wescott surrounded by her family. Born in South Burlington, on August 20, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Edith (Cushing) Ploof. Bernice was 86 years old. Survivors include her 4 sons, Dana Haskins and his wife, Ruth, Duane Haskins, who preceded Bernice in death, Anthony Haskins and Delnar Haskins; 3 daughters, Charlene Smith, Candace LaPlatney and Carol Wescott, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Blouin of St. Albans. In addition to her parents, Bernice is preceded in death by her husband, Donald G. Walter; her brothers, Kenneth, Reginald and Arnold and her sister, Leona Hayden. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, February 2, 2015, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Perkins-Parker Funeral Home, 48 South Main Street, Waterbury. A reception to follow directly after at the Waterbury Methodist Church (right next door to Perkins-Parker Funeral Home). A graveside funeral service will be held later this spring at the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery in St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, all donations are to be made to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495. Assisting Bernice’s family is the Heald Funeral Home of St. Albans, where messages of condolence are welcome at www.healdfuneralhome.com.
