St. Albans/Georgia – Bernice G. Cota a longtime resident of these communities passed away late Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the Starr Farm Nursing Center.
Born in Georgia, on January 29, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Lydia (Sweeney) Guerin. Bernice was 99 years old.
On May 3, 1941, she married K. Herman Cota, who preceded her in death on June 30, 2004.
Bernice was educated in Georgia. She was a longtime nurse at the former Kerbs Memorial Hospital where she retired following 30 years of service. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Parish in St. Albans, and a member of Franklin County Senior Center and the Hi-Swans Seniors. She always enjoyed playing cards, knitting and gardening.
Survivors include her son, Gerald Cota and his wife, Connie, of Bowie, MD and daughter, Marilyn Lozon and her husband, Carl, of Colchester, as well as grandchildren, Kelly Wellman, Stacie Young and her husband, Jeff, Jerri-Lyn Waldroff and her husband, Dale, and Laurie Savage and her husband, Kevin. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ashlee and Caitlin Wellman, Logan and Tanner Young and Meghan Savage.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans.
A funeral service will then follow at 2:00 PM in the Heald Chapel with the Reverend Maurice J. Roy, Pastor of St. Mary’s Parish officiating.
Prayers of committal and interment will take place later this spring in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery in St. Albans.
