each stage of the grieving process.
Saint Albans – Bernard Eugene Harvey, Sr, a 50-year resident of Franklin County, passed away early Monday, October 7, 2019, at the Our Lady of the Meadows with his family at his side.
Born in Springfield, Vermont on December 18, 1935, he was the son of the late Urban M. and Olive Harvey. Bernard was 83 years old.
Bernie was born and educated in Springfield, VT. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Houston, Texas and Cape Canaveral, Florida. After returning home, he continued his service to the community as a volunteer firefighter and ambulance driver. He was a longtime associate of the Franklin-Lamoille Bank and the TD Bank. He retired as a vice-president and loan officer.
He was a longtime member of the St. Albans Rotary and Ducks Unlimited. Bernie’s life centered around his family. The season of the year dictated what family memories were being made. Summer times were spent at Lake Carmi or in Wells or Moody, Maine. Fishing, camping, and walking the dogs on the beach were choice activities, as long as the Red Sox weren’t playing. As the leaves turned colors in the fall, Bernie prepared for duck, goose and deer hunting. Winter time was spent woodworking, cross country skiing, and eating Sandy’s homemade baked goods. During sugaring season, smoke was always seen coming from his sugar shack. Once the syrup was finished, it was time to stack wood and have campfires in the backyard. Sandy, Pam, Robin, BJ, Dennis and the grandchildren were always by his side. We are forever grateful for his love and memories.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Sandra Morse Harvey (of St. Albans, VT); his daughter, Pamela Hauck (of St. Albans, VT) and husband, Steven, and their children, Christopher Lavee, Kari Lavee, Danielle Padgett and her husband, Chris; his daughter, Robin Bilodeau (of Swanton, VT) and husband, Jamie, and their children, Jenna Young and her husband, Eric, Courtney Anderson and her husband, Michael, Haley Gosselin, Kali Bilodeau and Jessi Legault and husband Ryan; his daughter in law, Brenda Harvey Corey (of St. Albans, VT) and her children, Benjamin and Brooke Harvey; his son, Dennis Harvey (of Milton, VT) and wife, Christine, and their sons, Michael and Andrew Harvey; and his eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition, to his parents, Bernie was pre-deceased by his step-mother, Ann, and two sisters, Bonnie Blake and Beverly Menard. He was also pre-deceased by his grandson, CJ Poirier, who passed away on May 15, 1989. and his son, Bernard Harvey, Jr. who passed away on December 8, 2001.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, October 17, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street, St. Albans, VT.
Military honors and interment will be private and at the convenience of his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Our Lady of the Meadows, Resident Activity Fund, 1 Pinnacle Meadows, Richford, Vermont 05476. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the love and care provided by the Doe Family and their staff.
