Bernie is survived by his children, Susan and her partner, Heath, Bernard Jr. and Penny and her husband, Daniel, and siblings, Louis, Jr. and his wife, Joyce, Curtis, Sr. and his partner, Nancy, and Donna.

His love and memories will forever live on through his grandchildren, Johnny, III, Rebeca, Colby, Adrienne, Megan, Halayna, Emily and Noah, as well as his great-grandchildren, Tamya, Skyla, Johnny, IV, Brady and Carter. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Louis and Hazel Smith, his sisters, Patricia Botala and Linda O’Connor Bloodgood and also the love of his life, Mary Smith.

He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren so much. He loved spending time with all of them.

Bernie was loved by all who knew him and had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone.

He loved living at the Courtyard in Winooski. Thank you to everyone there that loved our dad and were always willing to help him with anything.

Our dad loved his independence and loved his scooter that his son bought him and could always be found running the roads on his scooter. Many people told him they saw him and he always smiled and said “yup, that was me”!

He could always be found fishing with his brother, Curt and grandson, Colby, and also enjoyed playing bingo or singing karaoke and will be missed by all his bingo and karaoke friends. He also enjoyed playing cards with longtime friend, Linda Romeo.

We want to send a huge heartfelt thank you to the staff at Franklin County Rehab for their love and support. We are grateful to have chosen FCRC, as our dad’s forever home. He was loved by many of the staff and he especially loved his three favorite nurses, Billie (aka, Joey or Bobbie), Sarah and Jeanne as well as all the aids, especially his two favorites, Courtney and Danielle. Thank you all for all of the care and love you gave our dad and all the time you spent with him. Thank you also to Toma, Martha and Jess for the care you all extended to our dad.
