St. Albans – Bernadette E. “Bea†Butler, RN, 94, a lifelong area resident passed away early, Sunday September 11, 2011, with her family at her side, at the Franklin County Rehab Center. Born on October 27, 1916, in Swanton, Vermont, Bea was the daughter of the late Henry and Emma (Laflam) Bachand. Bea married George F. “Ted†Butler on October 5, 1940, in Lowell, Vermont. Ted preceded her in death on February 28, 1981. She was a graduate of St. Anne’s High School in Swanton and St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing. Bea then worked for six years as Supervisor in the operating room at the St. Albans Hospital and went onto Industrial Nursing at the Fonda Container Corporation in St. Albans and the Sheldon Pulp Mill where she retired in 1978, following thirty-two years of service. Bea was a member of the Franklin County Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Autonoe Club, the Industrial Nurses Association, St. Mary’s Parish and serves as President of the Resident Council at Franklin County Rehab Center. She enjoyed playing Bridge and was a diehard Red Sox fan. Bea is survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold, Wallace and Raymond Bachand. Her family would like to express a sincere thank-you to the Condon family and the entire staff at Franklin County Rehab Center, for their support and love during Bea’s stay. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, from 4 to 7 PM at the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So Main St. St. Albans. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 15th at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Fairfield Street. The Reverend Brian J. O’Donnell will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Bea’s memory are asked to do so with a contribution to the Franklin County Rehab Center, Resident Council Scholarship Fund, 110 Fairfax Road, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
