Avis (Kenyon) Smith St. Albans - On Sunday evening, January 21, 2007, Avis Kenyon Smith, 83, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side. She was born, January 9, 1924, in Richmond, Vermont to Mildred (Moore) and Esbon Kenyon. Avis graduated from Richmond High School, the University of Vermont, Burlington Business College and Boston University. She taught at Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, Jericho High School and Newbury High School. She met her husband Edwin C. Smith while teaching in Newbury, Vermont. On July 10, 1951, in Richmond, Vermont they were married. Ed preceded her in death on April 24, 1995. They moved to St. Albans in August of 1958, where they purchased Ingleside Farm. They farmed together for thirty years, building an award-winning Jersey herd. She also worked as a statistician for the U.S.D.A. She leaves triplet daughters, Amelia Holm and her husband, Jeffrey of Fairfield, Polly Jane Smith of St. Albans and Julie K. Lebo and her husband, Paul of North Clarendon; her two sons, Gary E. Smith and his wife, Tammy of Bakersfield and Samuel L. Smith and his wife, Rachel of St. Albans; and step-daughter, Beverly Rose and her husband, Gerry of Swanton; fourteen grandchildren: Coralee Holm Zizza, Sarah Holm, Andrew Holm, Melinda Lampman , Anthony Lampman, Edwin Smith, Jacob Smith, Elizabeth Smith, Emily Smith, Derrick Smith, Keeley Lebo, Michael Lebo, Daniel Bushey and David Bushey; seven great-grandchildren: Cody Kenyon Smith Holm, Naomi Holm, Jasmine Holm, Wyatt Holm, Zoey Bunbury, Taylor Lampman and Zachary Carpenter Zizza; her sister, Joyce Livak of Richmond and two nephews, Roman Livak and his wife, Guthrie and Kenyon Livak. She also leaves a special member of the family, Debbie Glerum of Colchester and her beloved dog, Annabelle. Avis was a forty-four year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, belonging to Phi Alpha and the United Methodist Women’s Circle. She was a member of the Vermont Farm Bureau, Franklin County Senior Citizens, the Thursday Breakfast Club at King’s Cove and the McDonald’s Group. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. She spent many happy days going to auctions, reading, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, sewing, collecting antiques, and spending time with her family and friends. Avis was a loving mother, grandmother and friend, who always had a funny story or joke to tell. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Though she is gone, her spirit will remain with us always. We love you Mom, Grammie, “Smithâ€. As the Lord calls you home, may you find peace and tranquility. Soar with the angels. And, shine your light down on us in the early morning sunrise and from the moon-lit sky. Until we meet again.... A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Church Street with the Reverend Herman Benjamin officiating. Interment will be this spring in the family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Avis’ family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Heald Funeral Home, 87 South Main Street.
