Obituary for Avis (Bronson) Maynard

Hamilton, NY/St. Albans, VT – Avis B. Maynard, 80, a former resident of St. Albans, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Hamilton Hospital. Born in St. Albans on September 4, 1928, Avis was the daughter of the late Lee F. and Alvina (Raymond) Bronson. In St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in 1958, Avis married Charles L. “Chuck” Maynard, who preceded her in death on August 8, 1992. Avis graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She retired in 1985, following thirty-eight years of service as County Executive Director for the United States Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. She enjoyed knitting and was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Avis volunteered over 1000 hours in the Mammograph Department at the Northwestern Medical Center. Survivors include her sisters, Barbara Soule of Lakeland, Florida and Ruth Miller of Avon, New York; her brother, Robert Bronson and his wife, Faith of Cazenovia, New York; several loving nieces and nephews and a special cousin, Cassie Nutter of St. Albans. In addition to her parents and her husband, Chuck, Avis was preceded in death by her brother Raymond W. “Joe” Bronson on September 17, 2000. A funeral service will be held at a time to be announced at later date. At Avis’ request, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’ Roman Catholic Church, 45 Fairfield Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478 or the Northwestern Medical Center, 133 Fairfield Street, St. Albans, Vermont 05478.
